Flash Design

Flash design can be found all over the Internet. The Adobe Flash plug-in is said to be installed in 90% of the computers out there today. So companies and clients can feel confident that their web visitors will be able to view their content.

Whether or not you need to use Flash content depends on your project, your audience and your personal preference. Today, it's most often used with online videos, animations, online advertising, online games and product demonstrations. It's popularity also has a down side. Flash has some issues with search engines and accessibility, but there are workarounds for these issues.

I've been developing Flash content since 2003. I've worked on projects which fall under the following categories:

  • Flash websites
  • Flash videos
  • Flash intros
  • Flash banners
  • Flash animations
  • Flash product demonstrations
  • Flash software demonstrations
  • Multi-media CDs

I specialize in the design, animation, and interactive elements of Flash. At this time, I do not have the ability to develop Flash games as I am not a programmer by trade.

website design for Brad Leighton

NASCAR driver Brad Leighton came to me looking for a cool, professional Flash website. His team provided me with an assortment of photos, a song to play, and left the creativity to me. The result is a bright, interactive website with an intro Flash animation, music player, photo gallery, forum, and an HTML side for improved SEO results.

flash animation for eLab Consulting

eLab Consulting has a marketing service which is better explained with visuals. A Flash animation is perfect for this. I started by designing a storyboard based on the company's marketing plan. Once that was approved I submitted the concept sketches for the characters that would star in the video. After the animation itself was approved, the voice-over, soundtrack, and sound effects were added. The final element was adding the closed-captioning text to enhance the video's accessibility.

flash-based website for NeonWest

NeonWest, a country-rock band from Los Angeles, California, wanted a cool flash website that incorporated their sound and image. They also had a particular concept involving a fictional neon sign and some old west photos. Having little access to Old West structures out here in Massachusetts, I utilized some 3D models and software to create stills which allow visitors to see an old saloon from different angles. Then I created the neon sign from scratch in Photoshop and turned it into a Flash animation. The web design also included setting up free music and desktop downloads and a music player to hear some of their best songs..

"I am complimented on my website all of the time. Neonwest.com has been instrumental in getting myself and my band many opportunities that probably would not have been offered to us... Most notably an appearance on the television nightly news magazine, Entertainment Tonight." (more)

flash animation for MightyBooks

Stopping by the Woods features Ryan the rapping rhino. This was a Flash animation for the online children's book company MightyBooks. They provided me with a script and scene break down to follow as well as the voice-over and soundtrack. I designed concept sketches of the characters. Then I illustrated all the props and scenery and produced the final animation. Click here to see a short sample from it.
